Is Wix Harmony better for SEO than Wix Classic Editor? Recently a Wix Partner asked if Harmony SEO capabilities are as good as in the Classic editor, particularly because Harmony is an AI empowered editor: would this make a difference for Google or AI search tools? Would search engines assume that an AI built website is just slop to be ignored? Let's find out.

SEO infographic listing classic editor tactics: page titles, URL slugs, headings, alt text, indexing, redirects.

1. Are Classic Editor SEO Practices Still Valid in Harmony?

Yes. All of them.

Harmony runs on the same Wix SEO infrastructure that has been powering Classic sites for years. Page titles, meta descriptions, URL slugs, heading tags (H1 through H3), image alt text, indexing settings, redirects — all of it is there and works the same way. If you were doing this right in the Classic Editor, you will do it right in Harmony. The SEO & GEO dashboards are basically the same for both editors.

Wix did not reinvent SEO when it built Harmony: It upgraded the editor experience. The search engine optimization structure is the same.

2. Is the "SEO Topics & Keywords" Feature the Same?

It's similar in concept but more AI-driven in Harmony.

The Classic Editor has an SEO panel where you could add a focus keyword and fill in metadata. Harmony keeps those same core fields — every page still has an essential SEO task list including a focus keyword and meta description. But Harmony layers AI on top in a way the Classic Editor does not.

The key difference is the "Site Topics" system. You define 3 to 5 core business categories, and Harmony's AI uses those to guide keyword suggestions and shape content recommendations toward the right search audience. Think of it as the AI needing a strategic brief before it can give you useful suggestions — and those topics are that brief.

The practical implication for Wix Partners: you still need to bring your own keyword research judgment. Aria (Wix AI agent) can help a client understand what an SEO setting does or draft page content, but the decision about which keywords to target should come from genuine search intent analysis — not from accepting whatever the AI proposes. The AI is a starting point, not a strategy.

3. Is Text Content Still the Most Important SEO Factor?

What Actually Wins in Search: Helpful Content, Technical SEO, On-Page Basics.
The new Food Pyramid for Success in Search

Yes — and this hasn't changed.

Google cares about whether content is helpful, not how it was made. Content must be created for people first, answer the searcher's question, and provide genuine value — that's been consistent since their March 2024 helpful content guidance and remains unchanged as of mid-2026.

Technical SEO still matters — site speed, structured data, mobile optimization — but high-quality, relevant written content remains the primary signal Google uses to understand what a page is about and whether it deserves to rank.

This means technical SEO and content quality are not in competition. You need both. But if a Partner is asking which one to prioritize when resources are limited: write something that actually helps someone.

4. Will Google Penalize AI-Generated Websites?

The official position: Google does not penalize content for being AI-generated. What it penalizes is low-quality, spammy, or unoriginal content — regardless of who or what produced it. A human can write bad content. A machine can write good content. Google's systems are evaluating the output, not the method.

The practical reality: Google can likely detect the lowest-quality LLM-generated text, especially when it is published in large volumes without review. Sites that flooded their blogs with unreviewed AI content have seen mass deindexation, while those that replaced it with higher-quality human-reviewed content recovered.

Use AI as a starting point, not final output — every AI-generated piece should receive human review, fact-checking, original insights, and brand voice editing before publication. Disclosure of AI assistance is not required by Google and is a transparency choice rather than an SEO requirement.

AI websites will not be punished for being AI-built. They will be punished if the content is thin, generic, or unhelpful. That is the same standard that has always applied.

One more thing to emphasize: what makes Wix Harmony unique is that it is still a drag and drop editor: it's for human creativity and work, empowered by AI. It's far from being just another AI slop generator.

5. Is Harmony's SEO Capability on Par With Classic Editor and Wix Studio?

For most use cases, yes — Harmony is solidly capable. Wix Harmony has industry-leading SEO and GEO baked in from the start, including structured data (schema), full meta tag support, and fast enterprise-grade infrastructure.

Where there's nuance: Wix Studio is specifically designed for scaling companies running SEO, ads, and advanced campaigns — so Studio has an edge for very technically demanding or agency-scale work. But for the majority of web design agency partners building client sites, Harmony's SEO toolset is fully capable and not a step down from the Classic Editor. It does not replace keyword research, content depth, or Experience, Expertise, Authoritativeness, and Trustworthiness (E-E-A-T) — those require human expertise regardless of the tool — but the platform infrastructure itself is not a limiting factor.

E-E-A-T (Experience, Expertise, Authoritativeness, and Trustworthiness) is Google's framework for evaluating content quality. It is not a direct ranking signal, but it informs how Google's quality raters assess whether a page deserves to rank well.

  • Experience — Did the author actually use the product, visit the place, or live through the situation they're writing about?

  • Expertise — Does the content reflect deep knowledge of the subject?

  • Authoritativeness — Is the site or author recognized as a go-to source in their field?

  • Trustworthiness — Is the site accurate, transparent, and safe?

No platform automates E-E-A-T. It is built through the quality of the work, the credentials behind it, and the track record of the site over time. Harmony gives you a capable platform to build on. What you put on it is still your job.

In Conclusion...

Harmony's SEO is solid. The classic editor fundamentals carry over directly. The AI assistance is a layer on top, useful when treated as a starting point and reviewed before publication. Google's standards have not changed — helpful content wins, thin content loses, and that rule applies whether the site was built by a human, a machine, or a combination of both.

Partners who were executing SEO well in the Classic Editor will not lose ground in Harmony.
